چکیده

Arecaceae (Palmae) is an ecologically and economically important family characteristic of the vegetation in tropical subtropical regions, with at least 125 species occurring Philippines, most them endemics. We monitored changes stem density, mortality recruitment palm populations for 12 years within a 16-ha Forest Dynamic Plot located northern Luzon, Philippines. recorded total 4060 stems, dominated by Pinanga insignis (46%) P. maculata (34%), followed Caryota cumingii (19%), few stems (< 1%) Orania decipiens Areca whitfordii. Half (51%) initially 2004 census died time 2016 census, while 1086 (36%) additional were same period. Overall population declined decreasing due to higher than during 2004–2010 2010–2016 intervals C. increased Regarding topographic position, density valleys > midslopes ridges across censuses, only. Mortality weakly observed along positions between censuses. Our result presents how may change trends differing species, indicating importance palms understanding dynamics plant communities fast-changing environment.

Secondary forest succession in a tropical dry forest: patterns of development across a 50-year chronosequence in lowland Bolivia

Stand structure, species richness and population structures of tree species were characterized in 12 stands representing 50 y of succession following slash-and-burn agriculture in a tropical dry forest in lowland Bolivia. Estimates of tree species richness, canopy cover and basal area reached or surpassed 75% of mature forest levels in the 5-, 8-, and 23-y-old stands respectively. Total stem de...

Long-term changes of the vascular epiphyte assemblage on the palm Socratea exorrhiza in a lowland forest in Panama

Question: What are the qualitative and quantitative long-term changes in the vascular epiphyte assemblage on a particular host tree species? Location: Lowland rain forest of the San Lorenzo Crane Plot, Republic of Panama. Methods: We followed the fate of the vascular epiphyte assemblage on 99 individuals of the palm Socratea exorrhiza by three censuses over the course of five years. Results: Th...

Interactions between populations of Rhizobium, Methanotrophs and Archaea in two different lowland tropical forest soil communities

Bacteria in the genus Rhizobium, methanogenic bacteria and Archaea are important in the terrestrial carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) cycle dynamics and the sequestration of C and N into the soil biomass. A better understanding of the functions of these microbial groups could provide some clarity on the impact of different land development practices and a changing climate on soil ecosystems. The comm...
